Sketches of my cover page and spread

1. Description: This project is a made up of two sketches, one cover and one spread for a magazine.
2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used Photoshop, Illustrator and indesign for this project. I took all of the photos that I used in this project, as well as edit them and combine them with words. I selected attractive fonts that wrapped around the photos, and good color schemes to tie everything in together.
3. Message: That there is love for everyone, and that there are several things that you can do to be better.

4. Audience: Young students who need relationship advice
5. Top Thing Learned: I loved being able to learn how to form the photos to a template to make it actually look like a legitimate magazine.

6. Title Font Name & Category: Overpass-San Serif
7. Copy Font Name & Category: Minion Pro- Serif

Brochure Project

So the way that this brochure works, is that it folds right above where the blue reflection mountains start and make it look as if there was a blue reflection of the same mountains, but as you open it up, you can see that the real reflection is there as well. It was tricky to get things to line up the exact way I wanted them to, but in the end it all worked. I also love the text wrap which is used in a few different areas of my brochure as well.

1. Description: A brochure that I created for my company Katrina.
2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used mostly Adobe Indesign to create my brochure and edit it. I had to create text wrap so that my words could wrap around my photos, and use attractive fonts to make the brochure more interesting.
3. Message: That I am an artist and that I love the outdoors and alot of my pictures that I paint are scenic as well.
4. Audience: Homeowners who want personal art pieces in their homes.
5. Top Thing Learned: I had to print my brochure quite a few times, so I needed to line things up and print some things upside down even in order for them to come out looking like I wanted them to.
6. Title Font Name & Category: Seravek, San Serif
7. Copy Font Name & Category: Adobe Casion Pro, Serif

Web Page Mockup

katrinatolman-website1. Description: This project is a made up of three sketches, one wireframe, and one final website design.
2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used Photoshop, and Illustrator for this project. I redid my logo, and changed it several times based on the different pictures I liked for my background on my final webpage design. I was able to make a grid out of squares and change the squares to different colors within the color scheme of my picture to create the look I did. I used several tools within the programs I used to make the look I wanted. I also made an easy navigating page that guides your eyes easily throughout the page.
3. Message: That I am an artist with a free heart and spirit. I love the outdoors and creativity.

4. Audience: Outdoorsy people with a passion for art and  creativity.
5. Top Thing Learned: The process of how to create a website, that it takes preparation and steps and isn’t made without sketches and wireframes first.

6. Title Font Name & Category: Shadows into Light, Category: Decorative
7. Copy Font Name & Category: Playfair Display Italic, Category: Serif
8. Thumbnails of any original, unedited image used in the project:

These photos below are the sketches done in preparation for my wireframe and design of my website. I made each of these to brainstorm different ways I wanted my website to look. The first made a design for the second image, but after creating it, it didn’t grab my attention as I would have hoped, so I recreated a new one, using the first sketch. I did a wire frame of that as well, and designed it for my final project.

This pink and white picture is a wire frame of how my website would look with boxes and brief titles so I could get a better idea of how it should be. With this basic outline, it made things a lot easier to put in my actual images and logo, knowing that things were in alignment.

katrinatolman-websiteThis photo above is my website that I created out of my sketch and wireframe. I love the way it turned out. It has a unique look and would capture my interest if I visited it on the web.

Business Identity Project

katrinatolman-logosjpg

The logos above are three logos that I made for the same company. I chose the bottom logo to make a letterhead and business card.

katrinatolman-letterhead

Above is my letterhead. I put my main symbol as the E for Exterior to coordinate it with the rest of the my pieces.

katrinatolman-businesscard

Above I have the front and back side of my business card, which have the logo, information and name so that anyone who has it, knows who the company is and what they do, as well as how to contact them.

1. Description: This was a project where I made a series of three logos for the company, Utah Exterior. This company is a door wrapping company, and after choosing one of my three logos that I made, I created a letterhead and made a business card out of that logo. They each coincide with one another to keep the rhythm in sync.
2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used a few different programs for this project. I used Illustrator, but I also learned how to some of my designs on Indesign. I was able to create and draw my own E for the word Exterior, as well as create shapes and excersize different ideas throughout the process. I was also able to replicate the same look, and logo on all three of my pieces.
3. Message: the message I wanted to portray was that Utah Exterior is fun and unique, but also professional, which I portrayed with my fonts. I then used the color green intentionally to show that this company is eco-friendly and safe for your home. I like the design and way it draws your eyes in.
4. Audience: This is a company targeting home owners. It is the homeowners who will care and have the authority necessary to buy and apply the door wraps. It is also aimed at those who are in a stage of remodeling, or who want something new done to their home so that it will look better.
5. Top Thing Learned: Through this project I learned how to create my own original design. I also learned how to create a business card and letterhead. These are important skills that every company needs.
6. Title Font Name & Category: The E in Exterior was drawn by me, but the rest of the word is font Marker Felt Wide which is Modern. The word Utah is in font Source Code Pro. It is in the category of San Serif.
7. Copy Font Name & Category: Quicksand, which is San Serif
8. Thumbnails of any original, unedited image used in the project: None.
9. Source of each image (website name and hyper link): None.

Montage Project- Final Draft

katrinatolman-montage

1. Description: I used Photoshop to create a montage, using a picture of a piano, and a picture of a tree. I combined these photos and then changed the level of opacity in order to make the trees visible through the top part of the piano, to make them feel like one. I then changed the levels in the picuture, to make the darks stand out, and the lights feel perfect. The text is was added with different typefaces in order to make specific words stand out, such as “soul” and was put in white so that it could coincide with the piano keys. I also put the text in alignment with the lines on the piano, as if it were going into the distance as well.

2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used photoshop to open each image, the piano being one I personally took with my camera, and then combined them. I used the paintbrush tool and painted with a mask to give a see through kind of a look to the photo, then put a filter “oil paint” on the piano. I also put text into the picture, and bolded the world “soul” to add emphasis.

3. Message: Play the music of your soul, without limits

4. Audience: Piano Players who use it as a release and think of it as a passion

5. Top Thing Learned: I learned how to combine two photos and turn them into one.

6. Title Font Name & Category: Avenir Next Condensed Italic is the font name for the title, Myriad Pro Regular is the font for the word “soul” and the category is Sans Serif for each. .
